Dozens of families in Moyock, North Carolina are worried someone
could be hurt or killed now that Currituck County Commissions have
voted permit Blackwater USA to build a new firing range.

Blackwater USA is one of the world's premier security contractors.

The new range is scheduled to be built 1,900 feet from the backyards
of several homes.

Moyock County leaders met to address the issue Monday evening. A
large turnout came to the meeting where commissioners voted to
approve Blackwater's proposed firing range.

Resident Juanita Krause says if the firing range is built it will
turn her dream home into a nightmare, because they would worry their
two young boys may get hit by a stray bullet.

Blackwater says it would never do anything to endanger the community,
and they are going to great lengths to ensure safety. Officials say
they will enclose the proposed ranges with 16 berms and shooters will
be pointing away from nearby homes.

The company also says it is doing noise testing to make sure that
won't be an issue either.

Blackwater has been in operation since 1997, and they say they have
never had an accidental discharge or an injury from a gun.
