Immediate Action

Immediate Action
Andy McNab, DCM MM
Corgi 1995

Immediate Action is the expedited autobiography of Andy McNab of the Special Air Service. This book is not a blow-by-blow account or a rip-roaring heart pounding race through anything, it is simply the story of a normal guy who became one of the worlds elite solders, and stayed a normal guy. The book recounts McNabs beginnings as a grunt and his motivations to become part of "The Regiment". It is an honest book with a clear, understandable telling. It is a book of military experience with characters that every soldier has met and situations every infantryman can identify with. For those of the Spec Ops community, it might be a fun insight into how it rolls "across the pond", and for those grunts who want to be part of that world, Immediate Action instructs without preaching. To those outside of the solders world, the book makes it clear that these men, some of the worlds most deadly, are simply men and not crazed, snake-eating uber-ninjas. They have families, they are friends, and they enjoy a nice pint of Guinness. or two. or twelve.
I highly recommend Immediate Action to any one who is genuinely interested in an honest telling of the Special Air Service world, and good soldering in general.
