Can anyone refer me to any schools offering a basic Firearms Instructor Course? Preferably in the upper midwest, Las Vegas/Reno area or anywhere in California.. Thanks..

The NRA class is an option. I am more interested in a basic Tactical F.I. course along the lines of a LE Instructor course. I went through one in 2000 but I'm retired now and that is no longer an option for me. Thanks..

It is my understanding that in order to train anyone at that level you need to go thru the NRA cert. course .

The NRA LE handgun / shotgun instructor course is a joke, honestly. That said, if you aren't already an instructor it will be of benefit for you to attend.
NRA credentials have to be renewed and your organization or agency MUST be affiliated with them (more dues.)
As a retired LEO with an instructor course diploma in the bag, that should be all you need to teach independently. Are you trying to gain certification for running PI quals or something?

Second Jody on this, NRA is a joke of a program. What are you trying to do? What is the plan? You can get certified in CA for Armed Security or OR, or WA state. It all depends on what you want to do with it. More info needed.

The NRA may be thought of as a joke but he said he was looking for LE instructor courses. Options are limited because he is retired. Many of the instructor course I know of are closed to active LE.

I disagree, to some degreee. The NRA credentials seem to be the Gold Standard in the industry. Many states have NRA classes/cred's as a requirement to get a CCW, or a State Instr's license.
It sounds like what the O.P. is looking for is the NRA LE Tactical Shooting Instr. course.
NRA courses are likely given in your area. Check out their Training web page.
