Post subject: "Decency Laws" Detention in UAE

Hey all, just wanted to spread the word for anyone passing through Dubai International. One of my buds has been "detained" in the UAE for the past 35 days now for violating the local decency laws. She was rotating out on from a contract Iraq and made the mistake of cursing at the customs agent who was searching her handbag.

Using the word "ass" cost her a night in a Dubai jail, plus she hasn't been cleared to leave the country since no court date has been set. So basically she's been bleeding money for hotels and food and she can't get back to work in Iraq to start earning money again. And forget about the month of vacation back in the USA that she just missed out on.

Hindsight being 20/20, it probably would've just been easier if she had just bitten her tongue...

Because it this country camels have more right than women. We also have to be careful when talk with locals because if you say something wrong they'll report it to police(of course sometime it depends on who you talk with). 2 weeks ago I almost landed in jail because I was angry on 2 civilians who blocked my way while crousing in the city...they were civilian police with civil car. So be careful with it also.

Hope she get out soon.

That would suck! I hope someone is keeping track of her so she does't disappear.

She's a Dyncorp employee on the CIVPOL program. Today makes 49 days that she's been confined to the country awaiting trial, still no court date in sight.

If I didn't HAVE to go through Dubai, I WOULDN'T go through Dubai. So much for trying to make it a tourist destination to make up for the oil running out, eh?
