I'm sure half of the residences of that shit hole will lament the shooting of the poor young felon who never really had a chance at life, and how the system failed him..blah blah

$$ will be wasted for a trial when he should be summarily shot / executed.
Worse yet he will plea to the crime claiming mental illness.

I would like to see the gun retention techniques that department teaches their officers. Unfortunately some of the stuff out there is ineffective in the real world and the lack of continuous training is most of the reasons incidents like this occur.

This happened a few days in Burbank, CA. A single handcuffed shoplifting suspects and two police officers are involved in this. The handcuffed suspect shoots both officers with one of the officers weapons. I believe both officers had less than five years on the job:
*Both officers are extremely, extremely lucky to be alive.

Burbank Police Officers Shot By Handcuffed Suspect Outside Kmart

Two Burbank police officers were shot and wounded with one of the cop's own guns as they struggled with a shoplifting suspect at a Kmart, according to reports.
The shooting was reported around the noon hour Thursday near San Fernando Boulevard and Delaware Road, police said. One of the officers was shot in the hand and the other was wounded in the leg.
A witness told KCAL9 that the officers appeared to have a suspect cuffed outside the store when somehow he got a hold of one of the cops guns and opened fire.
"I heard `He's got a gun, he's got a gun,''' Joseph Hoage told the station. "So I dove behind my car and heard several shots, so I looked, and so the officer (who) got shot in the hand, he went to the right to take care of himself, you know, just stunned, and the other cop emptied out a stun gun, hit the guy about six times. And it was unbelievable 'cuz the guy was cuffed, I mean, I couldn't see how he would get the gun, but evidently he got the officer's gun and just unloaded on him.''
The officers were hospitalized in unknown condition, but it didn't initially appear that the wounds would be life-threatening.

I believe this type of shit happens more than we know. One time we had a deputy take a juvenile to the local hospital for an okay to book. This idiot was talking with a female deputy that was there as well. He was so busy talking with the female deputy, who was known to be easy, that he did notice the juvenile get off of the seat. The juvenile immediately grabbed his gun took it out of his holster. The juvenile tried to shoot him with it but the deputy was able to deflect the gun and the round hit the wall. I guess he figured that since the juvenile was handcuffed he was no threat......wrong!

Man he got in some serious trouble for trying to get a piece of ass. Luckily nobody got shot in the ER.

I admit to a small personal failure...I watch COPS and a few other shows of similar ilk just to critique their performance. Kind of like a shoot ,don't shoot scenario. I see sooo much fail when I watch these shows its ridiculous....

One thought I have though is eventually we will all make a mistake on the street, some worse than others. Unless we have eyes implanted into the back of our heads, it's inevitable. All we can do is our best to stay alert and trained. If you are in a department like mine that highly encourages hand-to-hand before the use of any other tool you are likely to be in a gun grab situation.

It's easy to arm-chair QB, and I catch myself doing it all the time. What's really hard is always doing the most tactically sound thing. Although there is such a thing as constructive criticism, I recently have tried to employ some amount of empathy for the LEOs when I watch these In The Line Of Duty type videos.

As for the felon, I hope he is fried but will leave it in the Lord's hands.

Just my humble opinion.
