Post subject: Pepperball

Has anyone had the opportunity to work with any of the Pepperball delivery systems? Better yet, has anyone been through their Instructor/Armorer course?

I am considering purchasing several of their products and becoming an instructor, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I have been a pepperball instructor/armorer since they first came out under Jaycor several years ago. We have used their products in our jail, on SWAT calls and in riot situations with good success. We still utilize their nylon rounds for taking street lights during SWAT ops. Depending on your application for the system it can be a very good tool. If you have an specific questions feel free to PM me

Unless you are going to start working as a LEO you will not have any success trying to use this in private security . There is no need for this at all in the states for security , especially in Oregon .

Been trained. Found it to be useless. Just my option.

Great for LEO crowd control, and as an entry diversion, but for Security or an armed aggressive attacker, leave it in the car and hope your agency lets you use Tasers.

Especially in Oregon? That is an odd comment. Anyway, to be more specific, we are often involved in breaking up fights and occasionally in dispersing unruly crowds.

I understand that the higher force delivery options are not appropriate for most security applications. The smaller units such as the HotShot and Flash Launcher, however, seem like they could be used in a fair number of situations.

Thanks for the feedback. Any further thoughts appreciated.

You intend to use this on the public and you are just doing security ? I can see the headlines in the news already . I foresee lawsuits in the future for you .

My comment on Oregon is that is where you are from and I am guessing where you intend to deploy pepperballs . The threat in Oregon is low and again this type of use of force is not necessary for private security to be using . You better get a hold of DPSST first along with PPB before its use , just a thought .

My research and talking to people who have used the system (thanks TDT1) have lead me to believe that this system might not be right for us, not because the system can't be appropriate for security use, but because the lower force delivery systems are not effective enough for our purposes and the larges systems are impractical for our needs.

While Oregon may be a 'low threat' environment, we have had to deal with serious crowd control issues, including gang members and other groups fighting and/or near riots in parking lots after events. A Pepperball type system would not be an unreasonable use of force in such situations.

As far as DPSST and PPB, neither is involved in regulating this type of use of force, but I work closely with both and can assure you that they have been involved in my research. It was, in fact, a supervisor from a local department that suggested the system in the first place.

Trust me, as both a former LEO and former attorney, I don't take either use of force issues or liability lightly.

I am sorry if I seem defensive (as was pointed out in another thread). I am new here and perhaps I am simply not used to the tone used on this board, but some responses have seemed extremely confrontational. Maybe I just need to get some sleep...
