Anyone here with any Shotokan or Escrima experience?
I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on these two martial arts.
Looking for Shotokan and Escrima schools/instructors in the Kansas City, Kansas/Missouri area. Any help would be much appreciated.

What did you think of it Spongebob? Did you feel it was practical and applicable to real life?
I've read that when you get more advanced you start actually using blades. It would be nice to train with a Remy Presas pupil. If you get a chance to ask around, I would be grateful.

Shotokan while stationed in Japan.I liked the hand techniques. Switched to Taekwondo once back in the States because of my long legs. Now because of my age Ive switched to mud wrestling with old women. |
What were your likes/dislikes about it?
Training that in Japan would be awesome. Avoids the "western twist" that is sometimes put on things.
Mud wrestling with women sounds better than any martial art, any day LOL!

5 yrs of Shotokan. Its great for learning how to isolate and lock out your body and stances, but not practical as a stand alone combatives system. We use Shotokan to teach basics in our Aikijujutsu/Kenjustsu system. We later incorporate Wu Wei Gung Fu for teaching striking drills. If all you have to choose from in your area is Shotokan, by all means go for it. Anything is better than nothing. My old teacher used to tell me "Dont mess with a guy that's spent 20 years as a carpenter if he has a hammer in his hand." In other words, anything that you study for several years is going to be effective. Hope this helps.

I have a Black Belt in Glock 19Fu. Does that count?
