Personally, I would POST AN INTRO before asking the question, but if you really want to know, I would carry and maintain proficiency in whatever gig/agency you're affiliated with to include those of the enemy.
As a Tactical Medic, you need to be able to safe any weapon at the very minimum...Post a proper introduction before proceeding any further.

Patient care first! then I worry about a weapon, I'll use what ever the wounded had...

Sorry folks- my bad, i did not follow protocol and post a into.
Disregard-disregard-Disregard. end transmission.
I thought I made a into-I assumed I did, and you know what happens when you assume. But since I am a boot-what do I know.?
going to add a resume and copy of my DD-214 next time too.

Max,
Sorry bro, but you're wrong in this case...The question is, what weapon of choice? Being in the tactical/combat arena, medics are shooters first and care-givers second...I know you've heard the quote, "Fire superiority is the best kind of combat medicine".
M8294,
Please don't post your resume or DD-214...A simple intro about yourself, background, skills/quals, likes and dislikes will suffice.

Good Medic, poor marksman. Out of the miltary for awhile. any ideas
for weapon for close encounters.? Lots of experience with 9mm, thats about it. |
I have a couple of friends in that industry that I'll ask and let you know.
Personally, I would go with a compact or even better a subcompact. One that has stopping power.
The 9mm is slowly being phased out by a lot of agencies these days. Still a favorite of the gang-bangers because they can rap about being shot 12 times and not dying.
The .40 cal is overall the "lawman's choice" now. I'm partial to the .45 because I'm comfortable with my accuracy and want the stopping power. At a minimum, I'd go with a .40 cal.
For your application, I'd choose the Kimber Ultra Raptor II.
If you want a Glock, then you need to define several things:
Compact V. Subcompact.
Caliber.
Compensated V. Non-compensated.
Nights Sights V. Plain sights.
Standard V. New RTF
If you do in fact want a Glock, shoot me a PM with the specs. you want and I'll refer you to my source for Glocks. I have yet to see any other supplier with better pricing than these guys (that offer goes for any other SAG forum members).
BUT YOUR FIRST STEP, CONSULT WITH AGENCY, SUPERVISOR, ETC. FOR CLARIFICATION/AUTHORIZATION IF YOU PLAN ON USING THIS IN AN OFFICIAL CAPACITY.
I also agree with Chase. In a non-permissive environment, how can you render aid if you are both shot lying on the ground? Then you become part of the problem and not the actual solution.
Just a humble opinion though.
V/R

Practice, Practice, Practice....if your in the military, go buy a 92F and practice. Go to the range, use the holster you carry and practice. Take a course, you will be amazed how much you learn. If you really believe your that poor shot, check out which eye is dominate, and see if your hand matches. I really struggled when I started shooting. Figured out I was left eye dominate and right handed. Learned how to shoot left handed and practiced my brains out to build my left arms coordination up.
Again like many have said your situation depends on your decision. I used whatever my team used, and learned every weapon system as good as everyone else. Never wanted to be the medic that couldn't shoot!
If your overseas, shoot first, treat later...advise wounded to team members to treat themselves and train to accordingly.

Glock 18 with the optional quick attach stock if there actually was an option to choose. The new ones are full or semi Other then that I would gladly lug around an m-4 rather then get stuck with just having a semi-auto 9mm side arm. Or lug a shotgun around which takes up just as much space as a long gun with less versatility.
