I can tell you from personal experience that I know two TCN's that joined the Marines and had their citizenship granted because of it.
One was English and the other was Irish.
That's all the info I got for that. I suggest contacting a Marine recruiter. If he doesn't give you the info you wanna hear, call another one.

Your friend will be able to enlist, however, does he understand that he could be subjected to lots of different security and backround checks? If he passes these, tell him to have a severe gut check.. I dont know what bootcamp is like now, but its no cake walk and if his english isnt very good or has an attitude he will def be tested. Also make sure he doesnt go open contract, he may be miserable with his choice of job, but going open contract he is sure to be miserable. Also he will have a fast track to gaining citizenship. Tell him good luck.

There are Recon contracts now, but I would be sure I was in astronomically incredible shape before signing up for that.

Recon and STA indocs are not what they use to be from what I understand. I have heard that its just alot of running with packs. You have to be WSQ to even try for Recon still, but like I said, just what I heard.

I know in 2007 the standards were dropped and many exceptions were made. I know because I was a RIP instructor then. It was difficult for us to drop fat bodies, non-swimmers and shitbags as the monitor wanted to see more 0321's because of the expansion of the battalions, force companies and then the addition of the MSOB's. The memory makes me very mad. I hated shitbags....motherfuckers losing antennas and falling asleep on watch...grrrr....anyways...
The prerequisites (as I recall to the best of my ability) just to be able to try out for Recon were:
Vision no worse than 20/200 but correctable to 20/20.
Must pass a vivid red/green color blindness test.
Must have a GT score of 110 or higher.
Must be a 1st class swimmer.
Must have a 1st class PFT (a strong 1st class if you want to make it).
Be eligible for a secret clearance.
Must have 18 months left on contract.
This is just to attend the screening, you still have to pass the fucker. Three years later, it could be different. I know that ARS was closed down and the new Recon school was set up to be something like BUD/S.
I miss the institution of angry Recon NCO's with a few months left on contract fucking with boots, but that's just me.
