Okay Dokey hahaha

1. MEMBERSHIP AGE

The minimum age to enroll in the Student Leadership Program is 14 years of age. Of course, all members under the age of 18 require written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

6. FIREARMS REQUIREMENTS

a. One Shepherd members are NOT required to own a firearm, however all of-age members are encouraged to own their own firearm.

7. FIREARM RESTRICTIONS

a. No live ammunition is ever permitted for rifles during One Shepherd training events. Live ammunition is defined as having a projectile, such as a bullet.
b. Blank ammunition will be issued—only. No one attending a One Shepherd training event as a member, guest, or non-member will be allowed to bring blank ammunition to training events. Our safety requirements forbid this.
c. Handguns, sub-machineguns, and any firearm capable of chambering a pistol cartridge are forbidden from use in gaming simulation.
d. Handguns are permitted for security issues. However, the following restrictions apply and are strictly enforced:

* Members, guests, and non-members must adhere to the local laws and customs regarding firearm carry and transportation
* Members will not brandish handguns during training—the intent is to keep all handguns holstered during all training events
* Members will carry handguns in "condition II"—defined as having the handgun loaded, but with no round in the chamber (for automatics) or loaded with the hammer down (for revolvers).

The association began gaming again in 1992 along the bluffs of the Missouri River

One Shepherd is made up of local high school and college students who undergo the exact same training program that has been established for the ROTC cadets and midshipmen. All attend on a voluntary basis—since One Shepherd is not an official function of the ROTC program or any college or high school.

Chris Larsen started it for kids. He's a good guy who I've gone shooting with. Trained Iraqi cops. Was in a photo in the NYT once. Wrote another book about small unit tactics featuring the kids. His son is now a Marine, but started out playing in the woods with Dad.

Harmless.

I figured I will jump in and clear up some misconceptions.

What Joe posted is a great rendition of what 1 Shepherd's Student Leadership Program has to offer. I don't think I could have said it better myself. However, I think clients of your potential would much prefer 1 Shepherd's training courses geared more toward professionals like yourselves.

I know our website is currently a little confusing, but I believe the courses you all might be interested in are located here: www.1shepherd.com/trai...urses.aspx

- Now do keep in mind that 1Shepherd often constructs client specific training courses dependant on what specific clients require. Of the most recent was a defensive force on force course, designed for contractors of a NGO (changed for persec) who have sense deployed.

To answer the OP's questions. I would consider 1Shepherd to be a legitimate training company. One Shepherd’s current 21 cadre taken in aggregate are 35 years in age, possesses a bachelor’s degree, and spent more than four years in military or law enforcement service. Together they have seen 14 military campaigns to date. These campaigns are obviously heavy in both Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operations, but also include campaign tours in North Africa, southeastern Europe, East Asia, and Central America.

One Shepherd certifies its cadre through a rigorous, multiple year program that includes a course on instructional methodology taught by a college professor with a doctorate in education and co-taught by a DoD curriculum developer with a masters in education.

With a quarter million dollar initial investment into a platoon’s TOE, including weapons and MILES 2000 simulation, 95 percent of all One Shepherd training employs real-steel weapons, blank ammunition and MILES gear in a 360 degree force-on-force firing range.

And to clear up one final misconception. Chris Larsen did start the SLP for students, spent time in the sandbox training the Iraqi military, and was the writer of The Small Unit Tactics SMARTbook: Recognized as a doctrinal reference standard by military professionals around the world. He however does not have any sons. Razz

To aid in the decision making process for prospective clients who may learn of your courses via Secure Aspects, I'd like to ask a couple of questions if I may.

1. Please describe the capabilities of your live fire ranges with regard to target array, lane size and firing order size that can be accommodated, and if you have reactive targets.

2. While you paint the picture with very broad strokes, many of us here have multiple combat tours, not "campaigns," and are fairly versed in a wide variety of tactical shooting techniques and advanced firearms tactics. What else do you offer that might pique our interest?

3. What Sims / UTM offerings are available and do you provide the converted weapons and ammunition? Are your instructors certified in this training aid?

4. How long has your training facility been in operation and do you have a publishable list of references from agencies, units, or previous clients who would offer an independent review of your training?

Lastly, would you be willing to offer a course to one of the forum members so that a first hand review from a known entity could be obtained?
