Hello guys, so like i posted in my introduction, I have been away from the security industry for a while, but like every former Marine I own a few guns and try to make out to the range as much as possible on some pay weeks.
I have been looking around for some tac courses around my area in Boynton Beach. Would it help my job search if I attend these courses or would I just be wasting money on some courses that wouldn't matter much to a potential employer since I am sure they will give me some kind of training before deploying?
Thanks in advance.

I think it would depend on the type, level and calibre of training you received. Is the company recognized? Do they offer certifications, et cetera? Also, what is your background, current level of experience and training, and where and when? These are the types of indicators employers look for. Also, is there anybody out there who is recognized that is willing to vouch for you? If so, that could prove to be a big boon, and may be the difference between almost made it and made it.
My two or three cents worth.

Search more.
Check with your local NRA, Law Enforcement agencies, and sport shooting organizations. More than enough information to be gained through those networks.
As for playing a part in your search for a job in the private security industry... yes, training plays a major part. However, training does not replace experience.

Thanks, Well I am proud to say that I served in the Marine Corps, 2000-2004, training.... all types of training. Dessert training, MOUT training, Expert rifle qual... well just tons of training, and of course the biggest real world experience would be my tour in OIF back in 2003.
Got out in 04, worked for Wackenhut Security in Miami and it was just basic shooting, had to qual with a .38 to get my statewide license, but I've been away for a while. I try to stay active in the shooting range scene, go out and shoot my guns when I can. I will look into NRA cert facilities and what type of training they offer.
Thanks

Awesome. I hope you find some good places to get more training.
I would like to take a moment, however, to caution you. "Tons" of training is very relative. What you consider tons of training may be very minuscule to others who are reading your resume or conducting an interview with you.
From the language of your posts I can only gather that you aren't tuned in, locked on, or at a minimum well versed in the industry yet. There is no "shooting range scene," Willm. There are firing ranges, small arms ranges, live fire exercises, multi-purpose range complexes, and all sorts of variations but I've yet to train within what one may refer to as the "shooting range scene." I doubt others here have done so either.
Since you are very new to this forum, I'll stop here. Keep in mind that using a firearm in most of the jobs that you see referenced in this forum is a terribly bad thing; an indicator of failed planning. There is much more to training than firearms. With enough time and bananas, I can teach a monkey to shoot better than half the people I know. Having him do a decent advance survey is a whole 'nuther ball game.

Check out Invictus, they're based in Boynton and ran by former Force Recon. Probably the best you're going to find in the area. Just not a lot of local tactical training schools.
