I've tried to look around for info, just thought I'd throw the question out there before I talk to a recruiter, see if anyone heard of anything.

I've heard, that's all, heard that the US military has started a programe for ex military personal from other countries than the US to be able to join the US military if they have skilles that can be used. NO green card required.

Is there anyone that has heard of this?
I'm leaving for the FFL 7th december otherwise, just curies to what this new thing about the US Military was =)

I haven't hear anything but had a buddy that was in British army and after getting out,married an american just so he could join American Army.

when I went to basic at Ft Sill... (1984).. I went through with an Iranian guy.. he had been a soldier in the Shaw's army... he had married an American woman so maybe thats how he got in.... he was a pretty good guy BTW.. in his 30's... but he took alot of from the 18 year olds..

In the Navy, we had plenty of Filipinos who had come from the Philipines. They were in jobs like Corpsmen(medic), cooks, supply, pretty much any job that didn't require a security clearance. The US Military as far as I know has always been open to other countries regardless of being in the Military or not. You just aren't able to get a clearance until you become a citizen.

But as it is now you have to have a greencard to sign up, this new thing I heard of let's you join without a greencard, thats what makes it interesting =)

That's not true my friend but good luck though. I have some friends from the FFL.
Man can you imagine how many people would have already applied to join the US Military if this thing (without a green card) was real!

I believe that any permanent resident alien (as stated above - green card) that meets the other requirements can enlist.

I served with a young man from Poland way-back-when, who was at the time a PRA. He had just graduated high-school, and was living with his grandparents. He told me about the Soviet-era high school training that they endured, and how their mindset operated as a "Well, we're screwed, so we might as well try to take as many Americans out as possible" mentality. They were evidently taught roughly 10:1 in losses based on tactics and equipment.

After his enlistment, he became a US citizen, went to college, went to OCS, and has served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the smartest guys I've ever met, and a great asset to the United States, both as a soldier and as a citizen.
