POSITION: PHYSICIAN REMOTE MEDICAL OFFICER.

LOCATION: IRAQ.
SCHEDULE: TYPICALLY 3 OR 6 MONTH ROTATIONS, BUT NEGOTIABLE.
1 MONTH ROTATIONS ARE OCCASIONALLY AVAILABLE.

REQUIREMENTS: CURRENT UNRESTRICTED MEDICAL LICENSE FROM THE U.S., NATO COUNTRY, OR COALITION PARTNER COUNTRY; CURRENT DEA OR PHARMACEUTICAL PRESCRIPTION LICENSE; EXCELLENT WRITTEN & SPOKEN ENGLISH; BOARD CERTIFIED OR BOARD ELIGIBLE OR NATIONAL EQUIVALENT; ELIGIBLE FOR ‘SECRET’ CLEARANCE; NO MEDICAL DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS ON RECORD; NO PRIOR FELONY OR ADULT MISDEMEANOR CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS; NO SERIES OF TRAFFIC OR CIVIL CITATIONS THAT SHOW A PATTERN OF PROBLEM BEHAVIOR; NO BANKRUPTCY PROCEEDINGS WITHIN 7 YEARS. QUALIFICATIONS: FAMILY MEDICINE, INTERNAL MEDICINE, OR GENERAL SURGERY WITH CONSIDERABLE PRIMARY CARE EXPERIENCE. EMERGENCY MEDICINE PROVIDERS WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED IF THEY HAVE CONSIDERABLE PRIMARY CARE & 3RD WORLD EXPERIENCE. SUB-SPECIALISTS NEED NOT APPLY.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Objective level performance of physician duties; perform exams/procedures; perform lab tests; prepare and maintain equipment used for procedures; maintain records and perform clerical tasks; and participate in client education at the duty site. Duties are performed and position reports to GORGRP Chief Medical Officer on medical matters and client supervisor for all other matters. Physician may be assigned in-country medical manager duties as needed by GORGRP.
Goals and Position Activities
40%: Assistance to clients and patients with clinical needs.
Escort patients to examining room and prepare patient for examination. Take and chart vital signs and patient histories, secure consent form signatures, review patient chart for up-to-date immunizations and completeness and accuracy. Conduct detailed physical examinations and minor surgical procedures.
Prepare instruments for examinations and surgical procedures, including sterilization of necessary equipment.

Measure, administer and record medications and injections or direct assistant medical personnel in same, and monitor for any adverse reactions, administering additional care if necessary; note any adverse reactions in chart.
Prepare examination rooms for examinations and minor procedures, and restock examination rooms with appropriate instruments and supplies. Maintain cleanliness and order of rooms.

Review charts and assistant medical personnel orders. Maintain correct records, inventories, and documentation.
20%: Performance of laboratory test procedures and routine laboratory-related tasks.
Assign proper classification to specimens and conduct initial processing to allow for optimal testing conditions.
Perform venipuncture, syringe puncture, finger-stick, or heel-stick as required to obtain needed blood specimens.
Provide dietary and hygiene instructions to patients for self-preparation in providing urine, stool, and blood specimens.
Process specimens and body fluids being sent to other laboratories in compliance with their requirements.
Perform standard laboratory procedures to include: Hematology - Hemoglobin and/or Hematocrit determination; Microbiology – Plate specimens on appropriate media, interpret and report results for Rapid Tests of various types; Serology- interpret and report results for Rapid Tests of various types; Body Fluids and Miscellaneous- KOH Prep for fungus studies, Occult Blood Screening, Pinworm Examinations, Pregnancy Test, Complete Urinalysis; and other similar procedures.
Perform scheduled quality control testing for all laboratory procedures performed and record results.
Perform calibration of precision laboratory equipment as scheduled.
Perform proficiency testing in all laboratory specialties, as required by guidelines.
15%: Preparation for specific procedures and maintenance of equipment.
Direct assistant medical personnel’s preparation of equipment for appointments, checking to see that it is working properly and cleaned according to protocol after each procedure..
Clean, adjust, calibrate and perform basic maintenance on equipment such as otoscope, ophthalmoscope, electrocardiogram, autoclave, audiometer and spirometer.
10%: Participation in client and patient education.
Participate in educational training of client personnel as directed by client management.
Educate new assistant personnel regarding what instruments and equipment are available and demonstrate their proper use, i.e., tympanogram, spirometer, nebulizer, etc.
Carry out assigned duties with sensitivity to the educational environment.
10%: Maintenance of records and general clerical assistance.
Review charts of patients to be seen to assure that all progress notes, lab tests, phone call messages and other test results are accurate and complete.
Make appointments for patients with outside consultants to include consulting physicians and diagnostic tests. Receive and screen incoming calls for providers.
Place telephone calls to pharmacy of patient, the laboratory, hospital, etc. Return phone messages to other medical providers, contact patients to remind them of future appointments.
File lab reports in patient medical records charts.
Enter patient information into online medical records system including medications, permanent problems, allergies, and other information as directed.
5%: Inventory.
Order and maintain inventory of all patient care supplies to include medical supplies, drugs, and equipment.
Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of the techniques of administration of common medications and knowledge of side effects of medications.

Knowledge of expiration date coding on drugs and sterile products.
Knowledge of emergency techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of common medical supplies and equipment.
Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures.

Ability to work in a team environment with a variety of providers, i.e., physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, as well as clinic staff and students.
