Had a good shift, made lots of cash, need to spend it...
I want a 1911 based handgun, but one that works like a Glock
So what are my choices ?
Any point in a 9mm ?
Anything like a Commander ?
I'm a Glockman, I just began to admit that there are other brands of handguns...

Your choices on a 1911 type pistol are nearly unlimited. Everyone and their brother seems to make one now. Very different from a Glock though. Choices of Cal. from 9mm to .45. I would recommend a Kimber or a Wilson Combat, the latter being a bit pricey.

I dunno what you're looking for size wise, but I bought a Kimber Ultra Carry II Stainless last rotation home and am really impressed with its size and accuracy. I'm not a Kimber fanboy by any means, but I'm pretty happy with it. It shoots just as accurate as my full size Springfield MilSpec 1911, but has a 3" Match barrel/trigger. It really impressed me. Combined with a Tucker Gun Leather Texas Heritage holster, its comfy, hides well, and re-holsters pretty easily. Hell I drove 12 hours from NY to NC with it and didn't have any discomfort. Most of the sharper edges are rounded for better comfort, the thumb safety is extended for easier manipulation, and comes with tritium iron sights. Cost me around $900 on Gunbroker, I'm sure you can find it a little lower if you look harder. A little more expensive than Glocks, but I have no buyers remorse. Only issue is that you need a little allen-wrench tool to begin the break down process....

Yep I can see a lot of choices out there...
Is there a brand list like for AR (ABC) ?
When I say I want one that work like a Glock, I'm of course speaking about reliability. I've heard so many discussion about guys having to change such spring and such part to make it work...
I want one that goes bang every single time, from the box, even if the last time I cleaned it was 5000 rounds ago. Possible ?
Any issue with the size small one (commander look alike)?

In that case Z I would go with the Springfield Mil Spec 1911. It is full size like M Danny said but reliable no frills shooter.

So far, no issues with the Kimber, Z. Shot great using 230gr PRVI ACP no issues. Only got about 500 rounds through it right now though. I thought initially I was going to have some problems after a couple of failure to feeds, but it turns out it was a magazine issue.
Gotta be honest though, I do have one thing to say though about the fullsize Mil-Spec. If you go here:
www.digitalsign.com/th...ematic.jpg
The firing pin (part 9) after about 3000 rounds total (cleaned after each session) would start sticking forward, wedged into the hole, in the event you dry-fire the weapon and the spring (part 10) would not be strong enough to unwedge it and return it to it's place, holding part 11 in it's slot. It even did this while firing, causing part 11 to fall out and the firing pin to go flying past my face. Needless to say, it was not an ideal situation!!! I had the spring replaced and had no more issues. 3K rounds IMHO shouldn't require that, even if I never cleaned the damn thing, but after asking around it seems it's a relatively rare condition. Perhaps I just got a bad one initially.

Here's a quick size comparison of the two - just FYI. To me, the Kimber feels better in my hands and it seems I'm on target quicker from the holster. The pistol grip is about a quarter inch shorter than the MilSpec, but it fits great even with big hands, no overhanging or anything. Hope this helps generally!
