I have been experimenting with intervals. This has seemed to improve my running time. My question is what are some other techniques that improve endurance and speed for running. Any information would be appreciated.

Frank, What type of intervals do you do? I Picked up a type of interval a few years ago. It really pushed up my endurance. I started with 4 min. you jog for 30 sec and then sprint for 30 sec. then jog then sprint until 4 mins. up. you then add 1 min a day. I got up to 20 min. you should cover about 220 yards in the 30 sec. sprint. It helped me most on recovery time. I could run two miles and at the end I walked about 100 yards and my breathing was almost normal. It really works. If you really want a ass kicker, When I played ball we use to have to drag a Tractor-trailor tire. We had a rope tied to the tire and an intertube tied to that. put the tube around you and hall ass. 40 yrds.down and back. do that every day and man you talking noodle legs. but it will give you some endurance if you can recooperate. It is a ass kicker! Also try running in a pool. helps your leg strength and teaches you form.

I have been pretty much doing the intervals you described, slightly modified LOLOL abit more walking after 2 miles, hey I am getting older. I was working out with a friend who just got out of BUDS that fucker is like a freight traing just keeps going. The thing that gets me is dead hang pull ups, I have been doing negative pullups and only managed to tweek my neck. I am telling you man don't get old. I am at 13:54 for 1.9 miles, so I am getting there. The company I am looking at does their PT in the high desert of Nevada so I am trying to over do their times to compensate for the altitude.

Shit man you to late! I'm already old lol. I just turned 38 in jan. I've been tring to get back to running some. I use to stay in the weight room and on the track but life kinda gets in the way. I started back running about a month ago and man talk about losing it fast! I couldn't hardly get a mile in.
I'm using the intervals to get some stamina back but it just doesn't come as fast as when I was in my 20's. Man the glory days! I'll get back some of it back but I don't think I'll ever get it all back. 14 min two mile is still good. That was the time we had to make when I was in the army. Hell I don't think I could do that now if I took the bus part ways! LOL
I had a friend that was a seal and like you say they just keep on going, Like the energizer bunny. He was pretty damn scary . We would go hunting and be walking together and just talking and the next thing you knew he would be gone and you would never even hear him. I told him if he didn't stop that I was going to hang a cow bell on him so I knew where he was. LOL But for real those guys are in some serious shape. My buddy told me that no matter how good of shape you think your in where you hit BUDs you find out you were wrong!

Have you checked the net to see if there is a device that simulates high alt. I think they make something that basically cuts down on your O2 that helps simulate alt. If they don't maybe we sould come up with something. Make some $$$$$$ !
