Hello all.
I'm researching dietary supplements for my class project.
Instead of doing something lame, I'm looking at dietary supplements and their side effects if misused or otherwise abused.
If anyone has information or advice regarding dangerous supplements, combinations to avoid, what happens in an overdose, etc., I'd appreciate either a posting on here or a PM.
I'm specifically looking at weightlifting supplements, but if you have info on fat-burners, over-the-counter stimulants etc., I'm all ears.
Thanks for your help.

I disagree, we whave a good many people serious about fitness who also take supplements, have researched same, and have life experiences.
The real question is whether you are talking prescription or OTC supplements.

I have already made efforts to contact the supplement manufacturers regarding this information, including Biotest, LLC, the owners of the T-Nation forum you quoted.
I'm looking for anecdotal information from the field, so to speak, as companies like Biotest might quietly kill threads which make their products look bad. I'm not saying that they would, but the possibility exists.
A smaller forum such as this is less likely to censor such information; I'm spreading my net wide. I also don't have time to mine the internet.
Specifically, I'm looking for horror stories about things like what happens when you mix two cups of creatine monohydrate into a gallon of Orange Tang and suck it down like a dying man entering the oasis. (Very dangerous. Not recommended.)
The purpose is to create an educational presentation for medics in the field. One of them might be yours someday?
Thanks for the support.

I only suggested those sites because of the amount of people on there compared to the amount here along with the fact that they are all there for one reason, fitness.anyways bedpan, i would register with bodybuilding.com if you haven't already and post a question in the forum.its the largest forum of it's king on the net so i am quite sure you will receive an answer right away from some very qualified(nutritionist) people.

Yeah, there are a lot of resources for such things. I don't know of any bad side effects personally. I do, however, know of a lot of people who got on the protein drink and food-bar bandwagon. I did, along with off the shelf vitamins and minerals. For the better part of six months those were approximately 80% - 90% of my diet. I would only indulge in real food one to three times a week (Subway veggie, granola cup with milk, MRE once every couple of weeks). Other than gas and other minor intestinal malodies for approximately 3-4 weeks in the beginning, I, and to my knowledge, nobody I worked with suffered any side effects. Just took some getting used to. Of course, drinking lots of Red Bull and Monster probably did not help but they produced less gas than a large cup of coffee, even though the rare cup of coffee was nice.
As far as what is too much? I don't know except to say that I consumed on average 2,400 calories in diet drink alone. As long as I stayed active enough the calories weren't an issue. I never felt hungry nor lacked energy. My doctor always commented on how healthy I was. No concerns.
Hope that helps.

Have you had any problems with high cholesterol from the shakes and drinks? Mine was elevated and I was taking the meal repleacements and drinking the shakes frequently. Went off them and ate more normal lower fat and fell back in normal ranges
