I was never a cop, but being someone fairly experienced with weapons handling I would venture to say that he had a classic AD/ND and maybe should not have pulled out his weapon.

He's fucked.

I don't think it was an AD (or ND as some people call them). The officer clearly drew his weapon when the suspect was resisting with open hands on the ground. I hate to monday morning quarter back, but the only clear reason would be he thought he was drawing and firing his taser.

If this is the case....and he gets a REALLY good lawyer it might be ok for him and bad for the rest of us (cops).

Tasers are AWSOME tools...my department has fought against tasers for years (only supervisors and TACT team officers carry them right now) ...

I guess we will see what happens when (if) it goes to court...

i have a question regarding the tasers.for the cops who do carry them,do they carry weapon on one side, taser on the other side.or just taser and no weapon?im asking since i have no leo experience and if he thought he was going for taser but it was weapon, how could he have made that mistake?some input would be great, thanks. but hyeah, definatley screwed!

I've never seen anyone carry a Taser on their weapon side. Usually cross draw from weak side. If he somehow had both on one side, his supervisor should be answering some tough questions

Taser goes on weak side per ALL training.

Hard, there was some shit going down prior to the videos, however I can't refer to it, and it will probably be skimmed over except in court.

He's still fucked. Local rage groups are going the "murder, assassination" route, includiing the COP of East Palo Alto...fucking hambone!

when tasers first came out Charlotte-mecklenberg was carrying them on strong side (in a goofy drop down holster). We carry them in a cross draw weak side holster (and some supervisors keep them in th car...)

but all in all hes fucked

Sure he can get a fair trial. At the conclusion of which he will be found guilty. At the end of it, a man has lost his life because this Officer used deadly force when he had no legitimate cause to. That's Negligent Homicide pure and simple.

His actions fucked up the lives of a whole group of people and left a man dead. He has to be held accountable for that. Same as you or I would be.

Also, the BART cop had less than two years on the job. This is not an excuse but most of you know the amount and quality of tactical training conducted by police departments varies wildly. Some get the
bare minimum and some get a lot more. My old FTO told me it takes 5 years to become a decent street cop. But this was in the past. Now police department promote those who have the right "credentials". I had a trainee who got hired in 1993 and by 2002 he was promoted to captain. Oh yeah, when he got hired he had a Masters Degree in Public Policy&Administration(AKA-How to bullshit people). The criminal trial is only the beginning. BART will payout millions to the family.
