Judge sets former BART cop's bail at $3 million

OAKLAND — Bail for former BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle, accused of murdering a 22-year-old Hayward man while on duty early New Year's Day, was set at $3 million Friday by an Alameda County judge who said Mehserle was both a danger to society and a flight risk
Michael Rains, Mehserle's defense attorney, argued in court that bail should have been set at $100,000 because the case is, at most, an involuntary manslaughter — not a murder.
Rains said Mehserle made a mistake Jan. 1, believing he was firing a Taser, not his handgun, at Grant. Rains said some witnesses described hearing Mehserle tell other officers, "Get back, I am going to take him."

It looks like the defense will be the officer thought he was going to stun/tase the suspect. Anyway thank god I don't work in the Bay Area.

Oh yeah and BART PD is hiring laterals and entry level???
