So I'm walking down the hallway at the school I teach at. I pass the vet tech lab and they are doing dissection. I walk in, talk to the Vet and ask her if I can grab a dog and have her show me some suturing, amputations, etc. No problem.

I now have my own practice lab. Not live tissue, but not too bad.

Yep. Get them from the local pound/vets after they are put down. I'm making arrangements to stand in during surgeries so I can do some live practice too.

I practice suturing on sponges, the high density one used for heavy bleeding. You can find them for free at your hospital or EMT station (out of date). But the vet idea is a great one ! I'll check that.
Do they put IV on dogs?

I learned and teach suturing on pigs feet, you can get them at the local meat market, very cheap or if you know someone at the butcher place, or the crutch pad that fits under the arm pit that works good too!.Ciao

Z,

Yes. We do IV's on dogs, cats, etc. Great for Peds practice.

I had the Surg Tech Instructor make me a foam pad suture practice kit also.
