Lots of people keep asking me "why mesa?"

Well thats a funny story. Last Feb I was in AZ seeing my sister and BIL, tested just because they did the expedited testing for out of state apps, took 2 1/2 days. Left for Iraq shortly after and now they are knocking on the door. Just trying to keep the options open for PDs around the greater phoenix area, since I really like it out there.

Doc- Where are you from in So Cal?

You are welcome. Dont take this in an offensive manner, because I am sure you are more than qualified for the job. IMHO Mesa beats down the door of every qualified candidate because they had people leaving in droves when I was in the process. They did the same thing to my buddy and in the end we both saw the writing on the wall and went with a different department. Until they fix their money problems they will have difficulty in retaining their Officers. I had a 14 year Vet with the Mesa PD tell me that his app went out to three other departments. That conversation took place a week before I deployed.

Be honest with yourself and the PD. I can't tell how much manpower I wasted on doing BG on guys who were less than honest wirth their history and the other type who were juggling three or four other opportunities. If you don't have any intention on joining them, save them the hassle.

PDs for the most part talk to each other about potential new hires. Don't get the rep for being a habitual applicant.

I worked for Phoenix PD and now I'm with the state. One of the guys b4 was correct about Mesa and Tempe starting out at a higher pay rate....BUT...Phx, right now at your 6 year top out is just barely under $80,000....that's with no court or OT. Phx has MANY more oppurtunities than the smaller agencies!! You can move around so much, it's really un real!! You have to take into consideration that most of the beat's you will be working in, you will be running your ass off call to call to call most every night. But it does make your night go by much faster! You will learn more with Phx PD in a year, than you would learn with Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler....and so on in 5 years! And if your looking to make a few extra bucks, Phx has MANY off duty companies to work with and you can make mega bucks doing that!!
