Post subject: In search for a EMT course...

Hey guys,

Anyone got any suggestions on an EMT course that I possibly do while on leave that is decent in both quality and price? Hugh plus if they take GI bill.

This is for personnal enrichment.

Thanks in advance,

2 week crash course to obtain EMT-B.. not a "perfect" program.. but they have a high first time pass rate for students taking the NR exam, its pretty low cost, and its short enough to complete while on leave..

i used to send all of my agents when i was the ASAC with a "governmental" type agency through this program.. again, i wouldnt say it was perfect.. but it met our needs..

They have a month long EMT-B "Wilderness" course. You can live and eat there. The dorm is okay, the food is outstanding.

The down side is the time, the up side is that when I went through there a coupe years back, the training was excellent and the people were very cool.

EMT, Inc will get you certified, but two weeks is way too short to really learn. I did not have a good experience with EMT Inc. Hopefully they have ironed out their problems, but they probably haven't.

SOLO takes the GI Bill through a local college. EMT Inc might, I'm not sure.

I'm doing an intensive EMT-Paramedic course in Nebraska at an accredited school which accepts GI Bill. I have some issues with the school, etc., but the primary trainer is an alright guy.

I will answer PMs but won't badmouth what is admittedly a creation in progress.

It is intense.

If I can scare up enough interest, I may be able to get a custom EMT-Paramedic course together for PMCs this year.

Like I said, the trainer is a good guy. Unless something awesomely stupid occurs, I will have my NREMT-P by July 4th of the current year.

Edit: I just read the totality of the previous post. I did the EMT-B intensive with Pelham Training / emtinc in Bloomington, Indiana and got it done. There were some dud instructors but it met my needs. The cheapo lodging a few miles up the road with the Indian innkeeper is adequate for the course. Overall, I was not thrilled as I got bumped from the intensive EMT-P course by USAF PJs, leaving my future roomie (a former SF operator) high and dry. I had to scramble as I had already paid for plane tickets.

Bedpan, aren't you supposed to be studying and not on the nets?

I have not been through any of their programs & if anyone knows about them speak up. I just thought that their courses looked interesting.

I'm posting as a public service (we are required to perform 15 hours of Community Service- a surprise upon arrival, I must admit!)

One of the issues is that the program has limited opportunities to complete clinical rotations and field duty in the local area. This means that students either commute a fair distance or arrange for something in a community where they live. This is easier to accomplish before one leaves to attend the course, as the typical day is 8 hours of classroom and 3-4 hours of study every day.

If you are comfortable cramming for twelve weeks and having no social life during that time (as the town is in the middle of Nowhere, Nebraska), it is a good course.

At this time, there are two seats remaining for the May course.

edit: Not only did I find a few typographical errors, I am in search of someplace to get my clinical rotations and ambulance ride time done. Barring that, I'll do some time as a EMT-B in the field. Please PM me if you know of anyone hiring EMT-Bs where I don't have to deal with highway speed traps.
