SPEAR has its applications, we use some it of as well as some Krav. We also have some ground techniques. We switched about 4 years froma a straight DT program of the standard arm bars and locks. The officers were quicker to learn and retain those three elements and actually use them in the street. We had less injury in training even though we went up in force application. Using the straight DT we had many a pulled muscle or dislocated joint due to the lack of skill of technique and guys trying to muscle through it.
We had fewer injuries to officers after they started using the new techniques in the streets.
So in short, yes, a combination of the styles will make it easier for you to train your officers in skills they will use and can be effective with.

don't waste your time with spear. as for stuff to point you in the right direction for you department, i am not the best resourse. most of the stuff i teach or would sugguest you go to would get you locked up too. stick with the krav for your app. cheers, c

I would have to agree that the Krav maga is the best way to train. The techniques I learned at CRI are quite similar to Krav maga, and they are very effective. I learned how to get out of the majority of submission holds, and the famous ju jitsu grapple locks. Krav maga is easy to learn and all the moves are the same basic format regardless of the situation. It can be taught just as quickly, saving lots of time and money, not to mention lives.
