I hear good things second hand about Krav Maga, which is an MMA in itself.

Check out Systema at www.russianmartialart.com
It is especially well suited for PSD work and taught by those who have pulled the detail.

I have a black belt in .556 and a red belt in 9mm Parabellum. Any questions?

What's your body type? What's your mind set? There is no one size fits all. Do you want to train and learn, or do you want a Tony Robbins motivational talk that reafirms you are ready to roll?
In my lane, I'm talking from experience as a DOC shift response team leader, defensive tactics instructor and go to guy for smack down training, rolling up on violent inmates everyday. TKD worked for me despite popular wisdom.
I liked to roll with wrestlers and football linemen. Theory is all good. Experience rules. When you can pick yourself up and dominate after someone rips your head off, then we'll talk.
I just happened to have that kind of "old school" TKD instructor. Your MMA instructor may be flavor of the month. Can he teach you to stand up after you get the Sh*t kicked out of you. It doesn't have to be pretty. You just have to go home!

That is the kind of attitude and mind set that wins! Krav Maga isn't pretty or finesse and many PD's stay away from it. Their loss, violent, messy and determined to win is what saves the day. It did it for me in my days on the street and works for me now.
