Post subject: Re: Foreign Earned Income

How timely. I just got back from the sandbox and I was spending the day on this very subject. I haven't visited this site for quite some time. I received the newsletter in my email box and decided to check in. Wow, it's really grown here. Congratulations!!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, taxes...

There are a lot of rumors swirling around over there about what's deductible and what's not. For instance, many swear that the hazard pay paid by your employer is not taxable. I also met many that just plain have decided that every penny they make is tax-free.

Personally, I'm ready to pay what I owe, but not a penny more. To that end, I did my research and found a CPA in my area that impressed me with his knowledge. (No jokes about how easy that must have been) I did a little over a year, so my 80k exclusion is split between last years taxes and the taxes I'll do next year. And no, the hazard pay wasn't excluded. Combat pay for the military is, but our "hazard pay" isn't.

Good luck and stay safe,
Helles
