Good to know, especially as I may have to start doing them again.

Thanks, GTICE.

Spot anytime...I would def like to be of some help to anyone who would like to get in better shape. I'm kind of a junkie when it comes to research for the gym. I am NOT a muscle head, but am def a gym rat.

I agree body weight exercises are beneficial. I do squats, pull-ups, dips and push-ups. I have a Bowflex and I don't use it anymore. I just do the body weight exercises instead. It also helps me out with my muscle endurance.

How long do you spend doing those exercises? And, in your opinion, are the results as good or better than using weights?

I have been doing this workout for about 6 months and I see a difference in my appearance and endurance. I teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu so the wieghts was not doing anything for muscle endurance. I have to say this alone makes body weight exercises better for me. I am not trying to look like a bodybuilder so I can do without the weights for now.

First Id like to say that I am no expert in this area, but I have had years of trial and error to go on. I used to use weights for my PT. Spent 1 or 2 hrs a day in there. Never got over 190 on my bench. I later switched to "operational training" or workouts that were mission specific. While weight training I grew to 200 lbs, 5% bodyfat. Size but no strength to speak of. When I switched to body weight exercises and put my emphasis on explosion instead of concentration, my strength went through the roof. I still weighed in at 200 lbs. but my bench worked its way up to 300 ORM and my endurance was like a machine.
I used the incline push up...at first...one handed. Eventually worked my way to 10 reps on the deck, but the incline triggered a whole new set of fast twitch muscle fibers that really gave me an operational advantage. No huge size, just explosive power. Oh...i kind of cheated on the 300 bench. The explosiveness of my initial push put the bar up high enough to lock out without actually having to steadily push the weight all the way, which is exactly what you want in an unarmed combat scenario. So to go along with the discussion...Yes incline is better for performance, and one-armed is even better for added resistance. Look up Pavel Tsatsuline and his "Naked Warrion" videos. He explains it a lot better than I do.
