Post subject: Indonesia/Malaysia anyone??

I'm thinking about joining a couple of my friends for a month or so of trekking across Indonesia and Malaysia and up into Thailand.

I've never been to SE Asia before and was just wondering if anyone has been there recently and had any recommendations and/or advice.

Thanks in advance.

I was just in bangkok last summer, I've been there atleast a dozen times in the past already and if you like crowded, trafic everyday, annoying people, stinky streets and cheap booze and hookers...then bangkok is for you bro...Indonesia on the other hand, specially Jakarta is somewhat nicer than Bangkok, just because its more strict when it comes to garbage and people loitering all over the place, its also a muslim country so if you get caught doing stupid things like chewing gum on the street and spitting, and if you get caught by the police, you're pretty much fucked... it's also cheap...pretty much all of SE Asia is like that. I am from the Philippines (currently in the Canadian Army) and I own several properties there and it' the only place I cn think of retiring...but then again...you gota check it out yourself to find out.

Don't wear the shirt that your avatar is wearing. It won't end well...

I used to live and work in Thailand and Cambodia, and currently live in the PI. PI is less expensive, they speak English, and you can't beat the hospitality. I love Thailand, but I found a home here.

I have a house in Indonesia and spend a good amount of my leave time here – I also go camping, hunting and hiking here all the time, what would you like to know?

James, what do you hunt over there?

Also, I have never shot an RPG and wouldn't mind a fam fire. I heard there are places to do this?

There is the military range outside Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where you can blow up a cow with an RPG. After seeing how the other weapons there were "cared" for, I would be hesitant to have a 30 year old Vietnamese made B-40 or B-50 next to my face. I would stick with the RPD and M-60 they have. It was 300 bucks for the round, last time I was there. I did think it was interesting that we could have had Instant Hamburger, but...

That range increased in price 4-fold in the time I was there. Most of the weapons were inop and the ones they did have operating were filthy and in poor repair. I wouldn't go to PNH just for the range, but it's an interesting place besides that.
